Friday’s Fairview card looks competitive, but bettors should get a decent run out of the Alan Greeff-trained Cliff Top in Race 7, a MR 82 Handicap over 1200m on the turf.

The three-year-old who will be having his first run as a gelding, was named Eastern Cape Champion Two-Year-Old Colt after winning both the Listed Summer Juvenile Stakes over 1000m at Kenilworth on Cape Town Met day and the East Cape Nursery over 1200m at Fairview. Richard Fourie takes the ride for the first time.

While there are no feature events on the card, there is still some thrilling racing at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday.

Once again, the card features a number of runners who looked to be useful juveniles making their first appearances as three-year-olds and hopefully they can shed some light on their prospects in Classic races later in the season.

However, the main event of the day is Race 7, a strongly contested Pinnacle Stakes over 1000m. Candice Bass-Robinson could hold the key to this race as she sends out two extremely talented performers in African Rain and Resonate.

They are also the two best weighted runners in the line-up and could well fight it out.

Warren Kennedy won the National Jockeys’ title last season by a distance and he was expected to be flying him and his family off to New Zealand to continue his riding career in that country.
However, in the interim he will be riding at a few meetings.

In that regard, he is carded for three rides at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday and could come away with a winner or two.

The best of his trio comes up in Race 6, a MR 86 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1900m on the turf track, where he rides Southern Cape for trainer Paul Lafferty.

TWO LEADING TWO-YEAR-OLDS LOOK TO MAKE THEIR MARK ON UK RACING

Highbank can add his name to an illustrious roll of honour in the Haynes, Hanson & Clark Conditions Stakes at Newbury on Friday.
The 1600m contest has famously produced some truly brilliant winners over the years, from the likes of Shergar, Rainbow Quest and Unfuwain in the 1980s, King’s Theatre in the 90s and Nayef in 2000, with plenty of other high-class names dotted through time.

Highbank is sure to be a popular pick for this year’s renewal after an impressive debut victory at Newmarket in July, coming home just short of four lengths clear of two subsequent winners without his rider ever having to really get to work.

Sakheer can mark himself out as one of the hottest two-year-old prospects if landing the Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes (Group 2) at Newbury on Saturday.

Inexperience cost Roger Varian’s youngster when a beaten favourite at Windsor on debut, but he made no mistake at the second time of asking when fulfilling the promise of his opening run with a taking six-length success at Haydock.
It was a performance from the €550,000 (R11 million) buy that demanded a step up in grade and he looks to have all the attributes to make his mark in this 1200m race.

Racing is at Kranji in Singapore on Saturday and talented sprinter Lucky Jinsha is primed to score a first-up off a 140-day break in a Class 1 1100m Handicap on the Polytrack.

A six-time winner from 15 starts, including five wins at this track, Lucky Jinsha has been one of Kranji’s biggest improvers after he changed stables from John O’Hara to Tim Fitzsimmons, rising 44 points in handicap in a short space of time.

The Grade 2 Lightning Cup over 990m tops the card in Mauritius on Saturday where seven runners are carded to go to post. Cartel Boss is the runner they will all have to beat.

Hong Kong Racing is in full swing, and Sha Tin will host the meeting on Sunday. Lyle Hewitson and Tony Millard team up with three-time winner Ezra in Race 5. This horse has a knack of producing very, very solid first-up runs. He’s won fresh in the past and shapes as a strong chance the South African duo.
