Dear Tab Account Holder. British racing will only resume on Sunday as a mark of respect to the late monarch, but elsewhere racing goes ahead as scheduled this Saturday.
Apologies for this newsletter arriving later than normal, but it was held back until UK horseracing authorities had finalised their weekend programme in the wake of the death of Queen Elizabeth II. British racing will only resume on Sunday as a mark of respect to the late monarch, but elsewhere racing goes ahead as scheduled this Saturday with plenty of high-quality action to bet on with TAB.

Saturday’s race meeting on the Turffontein Inside track is loaded with talented horses preparing for forthcoming features, but their level of fitness is unsure. Two runners, however, Homely Girl in Race 4 and Glittering Girl in Race 7, look hard to beat.
Homely Girl won the Grade 2 Tibouchina Stakes over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Greyville in June, when she wore blinkers for the first time. This Pinnacle Stakes for fillies and mares over 1450m should be ideal for her and she will be fitted with blinkers again. Dangers are Supreme Quest and Freed From Desire.
Glittering Girl finished a neck second in the Grade 1 Allan Robertson Championship at Hollywoodbets Scottsville in June and is well in at the weights in this Graduation Plate for three-year-old fillies over 1200m, in which she will meet her rivals on at least 6.5kg better terms than would apply in a handicap.
Jack Milner’s suggested R810 Pick 6 perm for Turffontein: Leg 1: 1, 2, 3 Leg 2: 1, 6, 10 Leg 3: 1, 2, 3 Leg 4: 2 Leg 5: 1, 2, 3, 8, 9 Leg 6: 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8

TARRY’S THE MAN IN OPENER
Racing in South Africa on Sunday is at Hollywoodbets Scottsville and leading trainer Sean Tarry can get us off to a flying start in the opener. He expected a good debut run from his charge Asiye Phambili last month and she obliged, finishing 0.75 lengths behind Palm Breeze at Scottsville. This What A Winter filly can only improve and looks a standout bet in Race 1. Click/tap here to bet Asiye Phambili to win.

NO UK RACES BUT YOU CAN BET BIG ON IRISH CHAMPIONS WEEKEND
The British Horseracing Authority has announced that racing in Britain this Saturday will be cancelled as a further mark of respect following the death of the Queen. Racing on Thursday was terminated immediately following the announcement of her passing and all Friday fixtures abandoned.
The St Leger meeting scheduled at Doncaster on Saturday has been moved to Sunday, when a new nine-race card will also include the Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes and Doncaster Cup from Friday's cancelled card. The St Leger is the oldest of the five Classics in British racing and Dunfermline's victory in the race in the Silver Jubilee year of 1977 is considered one of the Queen's most memorable winners.
The Irish Champions Weekend goes ahead as scheduled and TAB horseracing customers have yet another opportunity to bet big on a top-drawer international race meeting without significantly reducing payouts this Saturday.
The occasion is Day One of the Irish Champions Weekend at Leopardstown. The eight-event card is headlined by the Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes, a 2000m Group 1 event that could end in a duel between champion French three-year-old Vadeni and five-year-old Mishriff.
There’s little between the two on the evidence of the Eclipse at Sandown, where Vadeni was all out to thwart Mishriff, but the French raider has more room for improvement than his older rival.
TAB will offer its normal range of international bets on the meeting and all Win, Place, Swinger and Quinella bets will be commingled into the Irish Tote, which in turn will commingle into the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s massive World Pools.
Four Group 1 races will be run on Day Two of the Irish Champions Weekend at the Curragh on Sunday, when World Pools will not be in operation.
The 2022-23 Hong Kong season starts this Sunday and South Africans Lyle Hewitson and Luke Ferraris have nine rides each on the 10-race card. Both have secured rides for trainer Douglas Whyte, once upon a time one of South Africa’s leading riders and later oft champion jockey in Hong Kong. Hewitson’s best ride is in Race 2 in which he partners Whyte’s runner The Jolly.
CHAMPION TRAINER QUITS HORSERACING
South African horseracing was shocked to the core this Thursday when reigning champion trainer Paul Peter decided to quit with virtually immediate effect. The shock news came only a few weeks after Peter won the South African Trainers’ Championship with earnings of R23 million and a record 221 winners. Half of the 220 horses in his care have already been relocated to other trainers and he will complete shutting down his training operation after saddling his last runners at this Saturday’s meeting at Turffontein.
